Will you cheer on the Eagles this week?

Salado Eagles host the #2 Cameron Yoe in the first week of District 13AA-DI football Sept. 27 with kick off at 7:30 p.m.

Salado is winless in pre-district with an 0-3 start while the defending state champion Yoemen are 3-0 so far, bringing their win streak to 18-0.

Two weeks ago, the Yoe easily handled the Rockdale Tigers in their annual Battle for the Bell, winning on the road 51-33. The Yoe held Rockdale to 216 yards rushing and 145 yards passing. In their contest the first week of the season, Salado allowed 475 total yards offense by Rockdale, 282 on the ground and 193 in the air.

In the second week of play, Cameron throttled 14AA-II Lexington 47-0. The Yoe began the season with a 37-34 win over Waco Connally.

Cameron returns six starters on defense and six starters on offense from last year’s 15-0 state champions, including the state’s defensive player of the year, Somari Wright, who has 39 tackles through the first three games this year. All state quarterback Jason Kopriva has thrown for 618 yards on 41-of-58 passing so far this year. Last year, he threw for 3,216 yards and 39 TDs.

Salado has struggled most with the run and will have to find an answer to sophomore Taion Smith who has 495 yards in three games.
