Eagles soccer face Jacksonville on their home turf

Salado hits the road to play the Indians

Salado Eagles will travel three hours today to face the Jacksonville Fightin' Indians in the Region III Area round of the boys high school soccer playoffs.

The Eagles are 17-5-1 and are the champions of District 34AAAA (even though Salado is only a 2A school). Salado beat Mexia from District 35AAAA 2-0 at Waco ISD Stadium in the bi-district round.

In that game, Salado had goals by Chase Crenwelge and Brad Cosper, with an assist by Josh Rogers.

Both teams are laden with seniors as Salado has 11 seniors and Jacksonville has eight seniors on their squad.

Jacksonville (18-6-3) is the runner-up in district 33AAAA.

The winner of tonight's game will face the winner of the Waco-Rudder contest.

The girls also played in the bi-district round, losing to the district champion Waco University 4-0.

Getting to Jacksonville: The Jacksonville Progress warns folks to get there early as Commerce Street and Austin Street at the Tomato Bowl will be closed for the Running of the Pines event this weekend.
