Thanks to an Academic State Championship and third place One Act Play, a state semi-finalist baseball team and region semi-finalist boys basketball team, Salado High School won the coveted UIL Lone Star Cup for the 2012-13 school year.

Welcome Home: Eagles Earn First Win over Florence Buffaloes, 34-12

Defense plays prominent role in victory

Nothing is quite as dangerous as a football team seeking its first win, especially in front of a homecoming crowd. This became apparent as the winless Eagles hosted 1-4 Buffaloes Oct. 11.
Regardless of the numerous penalties against the Eagles or the Buffalo offense cutting Salado's lead in the second half; The Eagles still maintained their focus and defeated Florence, 34-12.

The daunting top-ranked Cameron Yoe might be undone by the underdog Salado Eagles as fans held their breath when the hosting Eagles took a 21-19 lead in the first quarter.

Eagles host China Spring

Eagles lose to China Spring

Salado Eagles trailed the visiting China Spring Cougars by a touchdown at the half of their Sept. 13 game, but gave up 22 points in the third quarter in the 57-28 losing effort. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-3 as Salado takes the week off before starting district play on Sept. 27 against the #2 Cameron Yoe.

Eagles lose to Rockdale in opener

Rockdale Tigers got off to a fast, furious start of the football season, scoring three times in the first 10 minutes of the game against the visiting Salado Eagles on Aug. 30. Rockdale went on to win the season opener 47-21.

Adams leads Lady Eagles to sixth place

Young boys teams comes in 10th

Senior Ashley Adams came in 18th place at the UIL State Cross Country meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock to lead the Lady Eagles team to a sixth place finish overall. Meanwhile, the boys cross country team came in 10th place overall in the 2A division.

Salado Lady Eagles beat the Cameron Lady Yoe in a three straight sets, battling back and forth in the first two and running away in the third set.

Salado Lady Eagles swept the Academy Lady Bees to win the opening match of district play, winning at home, 25-20, 25-8 and 25-19 on Sept. 13.

Lady Eagles 1-2 in district

Salado Lady Eagles lost two district games last week, falling in a highly-contested five-set match to Florence and losing in four to Lexington on Sept. 20. The girls will host Cameron Sept. 27. The girls traveled to Rogers on Sept. 24, but the game was after press time.

Salado Lady Eagles handed the 5A Temple Lady Cats a four-set defeat Sept. 3 to win their first home match under coach Tara Hatfield, winning 25-13, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21.

Lady Eagles start Volleyball season

New coach Tara Hatfield’s Lady Eagles volleyball team have started out with a 2-4 record, with its losses coming at the hands of 3A and 5A schools. The Lady Eagles beat Jarrell and Florence, 2A foes in the Gatesville Tournament, where Salado went 2-1 in three rounds, losing to Round Rock Christian in the first round.
