Glenmorangie scotches

Flavor of Scotland in Salado

While you are here in Salado for the Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans, The Range invites you to two events that will feature some of the best flavors of Scotland.

Owner and executive chef Dave Hermann has planned a special selection menu for this weekend reflecting the flavors of Scotland. The Scottish Menu dinner is $34.95. The menu includes a Scotch egg appetizer --  a soft cooked egg wrapped in herbed pork mince, fried crispy with garlic Aioli. Entree will be a choice of pan-seared Scottish salmon served over braised greens, green onion potato pancakes and herb beurre blac or a rack of lamb with fresh root vegetables and potato scones. Dessert will be Cranachan, a double cream with Jameson raspberries and toasted oatmeal.

If your taste of Scotland is a little more -- spirited -- then you will want to take part in the Scotch tasting at The Lounge at the Range throughout the weekend beginning at 2 p.m. daily Nov. 9-11. The Scotch tasting will feature the finest from Glenmorangie. Tickets are $30 per person. The Scotch tasting will include a flight of three scotches from Glenmorangie: Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, Glenmorangie Lasanta and Glenmorangie Nectar D’or.

Reservations for either can be made here  or by calling 254-947-3828.

Today's Christmas parade kicks off annual Salado Stroll

Weekend long event includes Homes Tour, late night shopping, strolling entertainment

Get in the holiday spirit in picturesque historic Salado with a holiday parade, home tours, a live nativity scene and theatrical performances.

The two weekends of Friday, Nov. 30 through Sunday Dec. 2 and Friday through Sunday Dec. 7-9 are filled with entertainment, activities and Christmas shopping experiences for the whole family.

Festivities start with the annual Christmas Parade at 5 p.m. Nov. 29. The Parade will begin on Royal St. and make its way up the length of Main Street to the Salado Plaza Shopping Center.

Arrive early (4:30 p.m.) Thursday Nov. 29  to get the best spots along the parade route.

The parade will have more than 40 entries and will include the SHS marching band, floats, walking groups, bicycle riders and vintage cars.

At the end of the parade, there will be hot chocolate and cookies and a visit from jolly old St. Nick at the Salado Sculpture Garden.

Strolling holiday carolers will serenade the late evening shoppers along Main Street each weekend. Children will be enchanted with the live nativity scene, sponsored by the First Baptist Church, in the evenings on the first weekend of the Stroll.

Beautifully decorated historic and contemporary homes open their doors to visitors during Christmas Stroll. See Homes Tour story on page 1B, this edition, for times, stops and tickets.

To get in the holiday spirit, take in Tablerock Amphitheater’s production of Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol”  in the evenings or the laugh-filled Silver Spur Theater’s annual Christmas production of “Christmas is on the Air” with performances Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 15.

For the latest schedule of strolling carolers and other performances and special events, turn to page 8B of this edition or visit www.saladovillagevoice.com.
