Salado I.S.D. is located mid-way between Austin and Waco on Interstate 35. Known for a rigorous curriculum, Salado I.S.D. is considered a fast growth district. Salado I.S.D. is a Texas Education Agency Recognized District. Thomas Arnold Elementary and Salado Intermediate are Recognized and Salado High School is Academically Acceptable.
The High School Academic UIL Team has won district, regional, area, and state honors for the past 8 years. The One Act Play cast competed in state competition in 2005-06 and the Debate Team competed in the National Forensics Championships. Six Salado teachers received local, regional, state or national recognition for outstanding teaching.
The Salado High School Band obtained a first division in the Spring UIL Concert and continues to grow. A jazz band and choir are also available to students.
The football, cross country, track, and baseball teams all advanced out of District competition with the Girls Golf Team winning State.
SISD provides over 25 career and technology courses, including horticulture, fish hatcheries, forestry, biotechnology, agriculture sciences, home economics, web mastering, and computer animation graphics.
Providing a well-balanced, individual student based curriculum in a top priority in the district. All curriculum has been sequenced through teacher curriculum specialists and vertical and horizontal teacher teams. The District approved a District level Curriculum Facilitator for the 2005-06 school year.
Salado ISD prides itself on provided innovative, research based programs including Grand Central Station, RALLYE reading, Texas A&M Consolidated Mathematics Curriculum, Neuhaus Reading Program, and 2 full-time English as a Second Language teachers. Salado ISD conducts pre- and post-testing to determine program success each year and publishes this in a State of the Union report.
October heralds Parent Conferencing Month where the goal is to conference with 100% of Salado ISD parents. Salado ISD will host the third annual STARS Curriculum Extravaganza for parents in January 2007.
There is a rich heritage of collaboration within the Village of Salado and Salado ISD. The Central Office is housed in a renovated old school building, sponsored by the Salado Civic Center Foundation. The Salado Education Foundation provides Innovative Teaching Grants and Student Scholarships each year through the proceeds from the Annual Cattlemen’s Ball held in October at TenRoc Ranch. The Salado Mentors is a community based mentor program targeting fifth graders. It is led by a board of directors comprised of 12 active community members. The Salado Student Art Competition and Exhibit is held each Spring through a partnership of Salado ISD, Village Artists, The Public Arts League, and the Women’s Auxiliary. English as a Second Language for Adults classes are generously held by the Salado First Baptist Church.
Summer programming includes a full summer school for grades 2-12, English as a Second Language, RALLYE reading program, enrichment courses, and Wednesdays in the Park. Wednesdays in the Park is a free program provided every Wednesday in June for all Salado children.
The tax rate for Salado ISD is currently $1.60 per $100 evaluation of property with $1.30 going to Maintenance and Operations and $.30 going to debt service.
